Watercolor Thank You

Today I’m sharing a pretty little fall thank you card.  I have been playing around with the watercolor technique using acrylic blocks and this is my first card using that technique.  The colors are not traditional fall colors, but I really like them behind the copper foil leaf.

To make this card, I started with a piece of watercolor paper roughly 3.5″x3.5″.

Using the Island Indigo and Crushed Curry Ink Pads, I inked up acrylic block D.  It is best to start with the lighter color as you will overlap the two colors.

Next, I spritzed the block until it was completely wet.  This is the part that took me some practice to know how much water was needed.  I also found that I had better results when I held the spritzer about 6″ above the block.

Then I carefully turned the block over and pressed it onto the Watercolor Paper, letting it set for a few seconds for the paper to absorb the ink.  After carefully lifting the block off, I used the tip of a paper towel to soak up just a little bit of the ink in places that may have puddled up.

As it dries, the colors will blend together where they overlap, creating the pretty green.

When it was completely dry, I very lightly spritzed it again, let the drops set for a second or two and then blotted with a paper towel, leaving the fun water spots.

I used the largest square of the Stitched Shapes Framelits to cut the background.  That was layered onto a scalloped square of Island Indigo.  I embossed the sentiment in copper on a 3.75″ x 5″ piece of Very Vanilla cardstock and added the watercolored square.  Using the Colorful Seasons stamp set and coordinating Seasonal Layers Thinlits, I added the copper leaf and smaller Crushed Curry leaf.

I’ll be entering this in the The Paper Players Challenge #362 featuring a harvest theme.

Thanks for stopping by!

Cool Treats

Today I’m sharing another card made with the Cool Treats stamp set and coordinating Frozen Treats Framelits Dies.  Popsicles seem like the perfect way to cool off in hot July weather, and we have been experiencing some very hot temperatures here in Nebraska!   This card also features the fun new Foil Frenzy Speciality DSP.

To make this card:

  • Start with a Soft Sky card base.
  • Add a 1-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ strip of Soft Sky Foil Frenzy.  I just love the shimmer in this paper.
  • On a 3″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock, stamp the sentiment in Pool Party and Berry Burst inks.
  • Stamp the 3 popsicle sticks in Crumb Cake.
  • Stamp the popsicle image 3 times onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock – once each in Lemon-Lime Twist, Berry Burst, and Pool Party.  Cut out each image with the matching framelit die and adhere with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
  • Layer this panel onto a 3-1/8″ x 4-1/8″ piece of Berry Burst cardstock.
  • Adhere this to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Summertime Blues

The theme for the current TGIF! challenge is the Summertime Blues.  What’s a cure for those blues – enjoying ice cream with our granddaughters at the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor in LeMars, IA!

And that was the inspiration for my card, along with the Fab Friday sketch challenge.

To make this card, I started with a Pool Party card base and added the blue background print from the retired Tasty Treats Specialty DSP.  I adhered a piece of 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon to the card background.

I cut all the pieces for the sundae using the Frozen Treats Framelits.  The scoops of ice cream are cut from Peekaboo Peach, So Saffron, and Flirty Flamingo cardstock.  The topping is cut from Chocolate Chip cardstock, the spoons from the Silver Foil paper, and the bowl from Tasty Treats Specialty DSP.  The Multipurpose Liquid Glue works well for assembling the sundae.  Using a sentiment from the retired Tasty Trucks stamp set, I made a small banner which is adhered to the back of the ice cream dish.  Next, I tied a small bow of Linen Thread around the two spoons and attached them to the bowl using a glue dot.  A small Real Red cherry tops off the sundae.  I then adhered the sundae onto a Whisper White circle cut with the Stitched Shapes Framelits and added the cute Flirty Flamingo scalloped circle cut with the Layering Circles Framelits.   Finally, I popped up the assembled circle using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Now I may need to go enjoy some more ice cream!

Country Livin’

This truck in the Country Livin’ stamp set was a perfect image for my dad’s Father’s Day card.  It brings back fond memories of my grandfather tinkering around with his old truck.  The new Pinewood Planks 3D Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder creates a rustic background which pairs well with the old pick up truck.  I also used the truck image on the inside of the card.

To make this card:

  • I started with a Smoky Slate card base.
  • I cut a 4″ x 5.25″ piece of Smoky Slate cardstock.  After lightly misting it with water, I ran it through the Big Shot using the Pinewood Planks embossing folder.  When it was dry, I lightly sponged some Smoky Slate ink across the texture of the planks and around the edges.
  • Next, I stamped the truck image with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink onto a piece of Watercolor Paper.  Using my Aqua Painter with the Dapper Denim, Chocolate Chip, Basic Gray, Old Olive and So Saffron ink pads, I colored the image.
  • I cut it out with the largest oval in the Stitched Shapes Framelits and layered it onto a larger Dapper Denim oval cut with the Layering Ovals Framelits.
  • I added a strip of Mossy Green DSP from my stash of papers and a strip of the 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon, which added to the rustic look.
  • The Best Dad Ever sentiment is from the retired  And Many More stamp set.  I stamped it in Dapper Denim ink and punched it out using the Classic Label punch.
  • For the inside of the card, I inked the image in Dapper Denim ink and stamped off twice before stamping on white cardstock.
  • The Happy Father’s Day sentiment from the Guy Greetings set is stamped in Dapper Denim.

Happy Stamping!

Garden in Bloom Birthday

img_0603 Today I’m sharing a card I made to play along with the color challenge over at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

hss-color-challenge-255

I’ve had this lovely color combination in my mind for several days and I kept thinking of flowers.  Tonight, I finally had a chance to get out the Garden in Bloom stamp set and play with these colors.  I kept the card very clean and simple, adding the white enamel dots over the black flower centers.  Since I always need birthday cards, I decided to use the sentiment from the Rose Garden stamp set.

After I completed this card, I noticed that the current challenge at The Paper Players is to use Flowers, so I will be posting this card there as well.  pp328-flowers
